Biography |
I am originally from Cambodia, a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia. I was born in Bartey, a small village in Kampong Cham province about 60 miles from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. I grew up and attended primary and middle schools in Battambong province where my parents settled down when I was little. When I was in my early teenage years, my family moved to Phnom Penh; I was enrolled in Santhormouk High School and graduated in 1997.
I attended the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) in 1998 and earned my Bachelor of Education (Ed.B.) in English/Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in August 2001. During my early academic years at RUPP, I taught communication English and basic computer applications to high school students and underprivileged youth at various language schools and local non-profit organizations. In my final academic year at RUPP, I was hired to work as an academic consultant for a local language school. As the academic conslutant for the school, I developed curricula and assessment tools and advised and trained hundreds of teachers.
After my graduation from RUPP, through a competitive government job placement process, I began my work in the Department of Higher Education where I was assigned to the office of quality insurance and legislations. During this assignment, I was also a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration, Build Bright University, where I taught Business English.
In September 2002, I was offered a research assistantship and scholarship to do my graduate work at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan and was awarded a Master of Management Science (M.M.S) in Industrial Management in June, 2004. At NCKU, I assisted faculty members with various research projects and was actively involved in the planning of major international conferences and development of the International Master of Business Administration program.
In 2004, I was awarded a graduate teaching assistantship that allowed me to continue my graduate study at Idaho State University (ISU); I earned my Master of Training and Development (M.T.D) in Human Resource Training and Development in May of 2006. At ISU, I guest-lectured in various classes and also served on the Finance Committee of the student government.
In August 2006, I accepted a graduate teaching assistantship offer which provided me with neccessary fundings to begin my doctoral work at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC).
In December 2009, I earned my Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development with an emphasis in Human Resource Development and a secondary emphasis in Finance (Management of Financial Institutions and Markets and Portfolio Theories and Speculative Markets). At SIUC, I worked as an independent study course manager; in this capacity,
I guided distinctive groups of men and women in uniform stationed at a few military bases in three of their undergraduate coursework through the university’s off-campus program.
On January 04, 2010, I began my appointment as a tenure-tracked Assistant Professor of Management, Department of Business, Managment, and Accounting, University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
I enjoy traveling to different places and visiting higher learning institutions. I also like attending sports events and watching sports on ESPN and other sport networks. My free times are also occupied by listening to music, taking photographs, and learning new computer software. My philosophy of life:
Failure is not permanent, neither is success.
